Embarking on a recent photography journey to Yosemite National Park, I found myself using my Sony 100-400mm lens throughout the entire shoot. So, when I was faced with an opportunity to capture a beautiful sunset over Yosemite Valley, I had to make a decision. Do I take out my wide-angle lens and risk damaging my gear or missing the photo? Or, do I keep my telephoto lens on and create a panorama? Well, in this blog, we are going to go over how simple it is to create a panoramic image from start to finish!
Step 1: Capturing the Panorama Shots
During my time in Yosemite, I kept my camera steady on a tripod. This helped keep a stable pivot point when shooting my panorama.
On Location: With my camera mounted, I positioned myself to capture the full scene. Stability was crucial to ensure each shot overlapped by about 20%.
Multiple Photos: I took a series of overlapping shots, sweeping my camera across the scene. This ensured I captured enough data for Lightroom to merge the images seamlessly.
Step 2: Stitching in Lightroom
Back in Lightroom, I began merging the panorama shots.
Import Images: import the images into Lightroom, select the first, hold shift, then the last image in the sequence.
Merge to Panorama: Next, right-click on the selected images, head up to Photo Merge>Panorama. Using Lightroom's merge feature, I experimented with different warp settings – spherical, cylindrical, or perspective – to find the best fit for the scene.

Adjust and Merge: After fine-tuning the settings, I clicked "Merge" to blend the images into a panoramic composition.

Final Touches: With the panorama merged, I made final adjustments to enhance the overall image.

Panoramic photography is a great way to capture wide landscapes. By following these steps, you can create stunning panoramas that showcase the beauty of the scene. So, whether you're exploring Yosemite or any other breathtaking location, embrace panoramic photography to capture the full scope of your surroundings.
